Who operates Malone
Malone is operated by Zektek LLC (“Zektek,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy applies to the Malone browser extension and the supporting usage-analytics gateway at extension-event-gateway.zektek.com.
Information stored in your browser
Malone stores the following extension options:
- whether Malone is enabled and the supported AI chat sites on which you have chosen to use it;
- your compression level, individual rewrite rules, custom filler phrases, and reply preferences;
- your send delay and whether the rewrite notification is shown;
- aggregate estimated tokens saved, messages rewritten, and estimated tokens before rewriting;
- whether anonymous usage analytics is turned on (on by default); and
- a randomly generated analytics client identifier, plus a short-lived session identifier that expires after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Malone’s rewrite options use Chrome’s synchronized extension storage and may sync through your Google account if Chrome sync is enabled. Savings totals, the analytics on/off option, and the analytics client identifier are stored only in Chrome’s local extension storage on each device. The session identifier is stored only in Chrome’s session storage, which clears when the browser closes.
Information processed when you use Malone
Prompt rewriting
When you send a message on a supported AI chat site, Malone reads the outgoing message editor so it can apply the compression options you selected. It may briefly replace the editor contents with the rewritten text, wait for your configured undo delay, and then allow the site’s normal send action to continue.
Prompt rewriting happens entirely inside your browser. Malone does not transmit prompt text, conversation content, page titles, URLs, search terms, code, or structured text to Zektek or anyone else. The AI chat site receives the message only through its normal send process after Malone has finished.
Estimated savings
Malone estimates input-token counts using approximately four characters per token. After a rewrite, it adds the estimated amount saved and the message count to local totals. These totals do not contain prompt text or identify which site the message was sent through.
Limited usage analytics
When enabled, Malone sends anonymous usage events to our own event gateway at extension-event-gateway.zektek.com, along with your analytics client identifier, session identifier, and the extension version. The gateway then forwards these events to Google Analytics on our behalf. Because this forwarding happens server-side, Google receives the event data from our gateway rather than directly from your browser, and does not receive your IP address or browser details through this process.
These events can indicate:
- that the extension was installed;
- that the popup or Malone Options was opened;
- that a prompt was rewritten;
- that an extension option changed; and
- that you turned usage analytics off.
Malone never sends prompt text, conversation content, domains, URLs, page titles, token counts, savings totals, or option values through these events. You can turn usage analytics off at any time from Malone Options; doing so stops future events and deletes your locally stored analytics client identifier.
Why we process this information
We use this information only to:
- rewrite outgoing prompts according to your options;
- remember your global and per-site choices;
- show aggregate estimated input-token savings;
- understand whether core extension features work; and
- diagnose failures and improve supported-site behavior.
We do not sell personal information, use Malone data for targeted advertising, or build profiles of the prompts you send or the AI chat sites you use.
Service providers and AI chat sites
Zektek operates the usage-analytics gateway, hosted on Cloudflare, which forwards usage events to Google Analytics on our behalf, as described above. Malone requests access to supported AI chat sites solely to find the message editor, rewrite outgoing text, provide the brief undo delay, and let the site’s normal send action continue.
Your use of an AI chat site, including the message that the site receives after Malone finishes, is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy policy. Chrome’s handling of synchronized extension options is governed by Google’s terms and privacy policy.
Retention and your choices
Analytics events are retained according to Zektek’s Google Analytics configuration. Extension options, aggregate savings, the local analytics client identifier, and the analytics on/off option remain in browser storage until they are cleared, turned off, reset, or the extension is removed. The analytics session identifier expires automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity.
You can disable Malone everywhere or for individual sites, change compression and reply options, adjust the send delay, reset aggregate savings, and turn anonymous usage analytics on or off from Malone Options. Turning analytics off also deletes your locally stored analytics client identifier. You can remove all locally stored extension data by uninstalling Malone or clearing the extension’s data in Chrome. You can use Malone without a Zektek account because no account is required.
Security and children
We use reasonable technical measures to protect information processed by Malone. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Malone is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Malone changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date above. Material changes will be communicated through the extension or this page when appropriate.
